Elastomer Membrane Roofing
Installation and replacement of torch-welded two-ply elastomer membranes.
Two-ply elastomer membrane is the industry standard for flat and low-slope roofs in Quebec. Watertight, durable and renowned for its resistance to extreme temperature swings, it's a proven choice for both residential and commercial buildings. All our installations are performed by certified technicians.
Problems we solve
- Flat or low-slope roof needing high-performance waterproofing.
- Old tar-and-gravel membrane reaching end of life.
- Requirement for UV resistance and extreme freeze-thaw performance.
- Budget focused on long-term durability (25–30 years) over lowest initial cost.
- Commercial building or condo where reliability is paramount.
The two-ply system: our specialty
Two-ply torch-welded elastomer membrane is the most widespread and proven solution for flat and low-slope roofs in Quebec. Invented in Europe and refined over forty-plus years in our climate, it's earned its place through exceptional durability, its ability to handle building movement, and its excellent resistance to weather and UV.
The system is built from two distinct layers: a base membrane, welded directly to the insulation or the deck, and a cap membrane with a granular surface (granules protect the membrane from UV). The seams of the two layers are offset by roughly 50%, eliminating any potential weak point.
Why it works so well in our climate
Elastomer, as the name suggests, has serious elongation capacity. When a building contracts at -30°C in January and expands at +30°C in July, the membrane follows the movement without cracking — unlike rigid coverings that eventually crack from all those freeze-thaw cycles.
The membranes we install are reinforced with a non-woven polyester armature that gives them exceptional mechanical strength. They absorb impacts, support occasional foot traffic for equipment maintenance on commercial buildings, and stand up to hail that damages other roof types.
Finally, torch welding creates a real chemical fusion between the two layers — it's not just glue, it's a single mass once cooled. That's what gives the system its longevity.
Installation that demands an experienced roofer
Installing elastomer membrane looks straightforward but actually demands real expertise. Flame temperature, pace of advancement, seam overlap, how to handle corners and penetrations — everything has to be executed correctly to guarantee watertightness.
Our crew is made up of experienced roofers who've been running this system for years. We follow the installation protocols of leading elastomer membrane manufacturers strictly to preserve the warranty.
We also handle the safety side of hot-work: fire watches, extinguishers within reach, post-work monitoring for the required period, and full CNESST compliance. The safety of the building and its occupants is non-negotiable.
